Really Nice Outside! Really Nice.

Nicole in "Invasion"

Yep, this morning started rather early today. 0515 as usual, but it just felt earlier. I sure wouldn’t mind one night of uninterrupted sleep! Just 7 hours.

Been “playing” with a program, gif2apng, that turns .gif files into animated .png files. Then I got to “playing” with my Wordpress trying to increase the upload limit cause making .gif’s under 2 mb is a real pain sometimes. I just want 5 mb is all!

I was able to include this 3.7 mb file by manually uploading it then linking to it, but, I want to be able to just include it here and have it upload.

Ann Francis in "Forbidden Planet"

Found 7 copies of this picture from where I tried uploading by just making a regular post and it kept erroring out. I just don’t know.

Anywho, I’ve probably bored you to tears with all this technical stuff. On to my usual Friday! (Well, mostly usual.)

bi03ssSo I went to my friend’s and picked up my new rider-mower. Bad solenoid. Cost me $100 to get it all fixed; more than worth it since the rider-mower was given to me in the first place. Injured myself taking it off the truck at home. Damned Clutzy POS! Works great though. Already mowed the back yard. Works just fine.

So I mowed the front-lower yard too. Then moved the Caravan to a different place in the yard getting ready for when I rent a digger for a day. Nice out there!

I’m done for the day. It’s 1600 and I should start to figure out what I’m going to fix myself for dinner. Or I may just go get taco’s while picking SWMBO up at the QFC @ 1915 this evening. Kind of late for me to be eating but I can handle it. I think.

I gotta reboot my computer into Windows and get the MCARC bank statements and get those printed out before bedtime. Might as well get that done! (Posting WAY early.)

What A Nice Wx Day!

I’d be willing to bet it got to 85 degrees here at the house. Sunny! Hot! My kind of day! Spent as much time outside as I could, went for several walks around the property, ate a butt-ton of blackberries, and just enjoyed this day as much as possible.

We Do Not Need Any Lightning Right Now. Nomatter How Cool It Would Be.

All the while loading the Caravan for our trip. Had to make a run to WinCo and figured, as long as I was in town, also stopped by the Vape Shop and got another battery for my vaper-thingie. Mostly got sandwich stuff at WinCo so we could eat while driving if we wanted to. Or we could stop by the road somewhere if we wanted to. Or we could go hungry if we wanted to. (Did I cover all the bases?)

Listened to the Noon-time Net (7268.5) while laying out. Heard a lot of folks. The Sheriff’s bands have been busy with a truck turned on it’s side up near the Naval Hospital. Heard a report of another vehicle turned over later this afternoon but don’t remember where. All the usual ambulance runs and rescue stuff going on too. It’s fun to listen in and not have to respond.

Wx Here While We'll Be In Utah

This is one of the rare occasions that I’m glad SWMBO’s Son lives in our basement. He can keep an eye on the house and feed the animals while we travel for the weekend. Other than that …

SWMBO is home and made herself dinner and put some of the stuff she wants to take into the Caravan. She wants to take her sewing machine? She’ll be doing genealogy the first 3 days and trekking around canyons the 2nd 3 days. When’s she going to get time to sew? (She’ll manage though.)

Anywho, supposed to start raining tonight so I’ve buttoned up the Caravan and brought in everything I don’t want to get wet. Think I’ll go lay down and read.

You Are Not Familiar With The Focusing Disintegrator Ray?

avatarchangeReally nice day out! One of the few remaining for this year. I tried to stay outside as much as possible. Really tried. Almost made it. Busy putting “stuff” together for the trip though. Which meant being inside way too much for such a nice day.

walk1

Not much else going on. Playing with my 857d and the new Alpha Antenna. Added a couple of counterpoise wires to it. Made 4 but have room for only 2 to fit on the thing. Need an extension for the screw thingie that holds the coax attachment thingie. (There are a lot of “thingies” in Ham Radio.)  Even managed to check in to the Noontime Net on 7.268.5 using only 25 watts! That’s good.

Made Fried Chicken, Boiled Chunked Potato’s, and barely warmed up Home-Grown Peas for dinner. Was yummy. Now to remember that I have to save some for SWMBO. Or else. (Not really. I mean; she wouldn’t really, like, hurt me or anything. But there is that look.)

Went back and attached two wires each to the connectors for the counterpoise. I figure it should work. Hopefully. No harm trying.

fsx 2014-11-14 21-01-42-13

Heard on the radio today: “Lady calling says she keeps getting texts that someone is trapped at the bottom of a canyon. Injuries unknown.” Several small fires in the area. Non-Injury Hit & Run. Altercation at Safeway in town. Three episodes of people passing out. (Probably the heat. It got up to 75 degrees today.)

MCARC 2-meter Wednesday Evening Chat Net went well with about 8 check-ins. I had to switch to the directional I built so they could hear me, and their signals were broken and scratchy, but we got it worked out. One of these days I’ll find a sweet spot for the 2-meter/440 antenna that will work just fine. Of course, I may wind up buying another 100 feet of coax to reach it in that spot.

And that’s about it for tonight. Just not much going on around here.

2015-08-19

It Really Is Just SSDD Here Today.

Started the day early, as usual; but this time I got to take SWMBO to the Ferry Landing. Nice spending some extra time with her. Coming back the sun, viewed in the rear view mirror, was just coming up and was bright red. It was cool looking! Wish I had had my camera, or even my phone (I forgot it), along.

IMAG3568

Nice day that I spent outside as much as possible. Even though that meant digging a hole to mount a new 10 foot pipe to mount my 2-meter antenna to. Man, I hadn’t sweated that much in ages! (But it felt good to be doing something physical.) Going to put my antenna up another 10 feet if I can. Then the base will be at about 30 feet and that should help some. Maybe. I hope.

IMAG3592

MCARC 2-meter Wednesday evening chat net went well. Not as many of the new guys joined us tonight though. Bummer.

Kiss Her Like You Mean It!

The other night I walked into SWMBO’s room, put my arms around her, and kissed her like the first time we, well, that was 33 years ago. The look on her face, and her inability to immediately get back to what she was doing, was nice.

17-USMCRC Cleveland16“What was that for?” She asked.

“Cause I could. Cause I wanted to.” Says I.

We all get busy. We all inevitably fall into routine. We all take relationships for granted. It does not hurt to occasionally stop and remind her that she is that Special Person in your life for the past ?? years. (Coming up on 30+ for us.)

It’s early Tuesday and I’m making plans for what I want to accomplish today. Supposed to be a nicer day out so, like most home owners in the North, I’m probably going to be doing outside projects while I can. Inside projects are for Winter when you really don’t want to be (or can’t be) outside.

Which means I’ll probably do some weeding in the garden, move things around getting ready for when I rent the digger for a day, and me and the Dog will probably take all our clothes off and go for walks around the back of the property while stopping to eat any Black Berries we come across.

Why I Don't Mount My Antenna On The Roof Peak!If it weren’t for the Wasps I’d mount my 2-meter antenna at the peak of the house. I’m just not young, nor agile, enough to dodge wasps and put up an antenna at the same time anymore. Damn getting old anyway!

I did get out and solder the new 2-meter antenna. If you can call what I do soldering. And, yep, managed to burn my finger and thumb while doing it. At least I’m consistent. But it appears that it’ll hold. I’ll test it tonight. Also took down the 6BTV antenna since I have that new Alpha coming.

Went out and took a bunch of pictures trying to show how dry it is around here. The Black Berries are drying up. Even my peas are looking poorly and I water them at least every other day. Cherry Tomato and Bell Pepper plants are the only things looking like they’re prospering this summer. But I did get several meals worth of peas again this year. Watered the garden while I was out there.

01352_spooler_1680x1050

Dug up/gathered some more pebbles/small rocks for my “rock garden.” Gonna have to gather enough to fill the Mason Stones I put around a couple of trees. Or go with that bark stuff. I’d better ask SWMBO before I get too far into it.

Took the easy way out for dinner tonight. Salisbury Steak TV Dinner while “Galaxy Quest” plays in the background. Also went out and started the sprinkler to water the fruit trees a bit. We got 4 apples on our apple tree (of course) and I want to encourage that sort of behavior.

MCARC 10-meter Tuesday Evening Chat Net went well; even though I can’t hear anyone worth shit. They can really hear me; I just can’t hear them very well. Couple of the guys helped me out with the new 2-meter antenna after the Net. If I point it where I think Shelton is, they can’t really hear me and I can’t hear them much at all. But, if I point the thing to what I think of as West, everything’s good. Only thing we can figure is I’m bouncing my signal off the mountains in that direction. We’ll get it worked out tomorrow.

And that’s pretty much it. Another boring day in the life of Old Doc King shared with the world.

Someone Hacked Our Damned Netflix Account. Lost All My List!

Sunday. Nice, warm, partially cloudy Sunday. A day to finish the mowing of the back yard. Get out the whack-weeder and do around the house and garden. (What little garden I put in this year.) Whack-weed the walking path around the property. Pick the last of the blue berry’s and the peas that are ripe. (Yummy!) Water everything that needs to be watered. Mowed the upper-back and pet poop yards.

v07

Someone hacked our Netflix account over the past month. I tried logging on cause I stopped getting discs and wanted to see what’s up. That was what was up! Someone hacked it and changed everything to Spanish, deleted me (and my lists) and added someone called “Kids” and a Streaming Plan at $12/month. Luckily they only got us for a couple of months. But, still. Damn!

So I’ve cancelled the account online cause it’s just easier than trying to get through to a “Service Rep.” I’ll wait a couple of days until my new cards get here then start it again under my name with the new numbers. Then start rebuilding our lists. What a pain!

SWMBO’s Home Teachers came over for their monthly visit. These seem a bit more dedicated than any she’s had the past few years. Nice people. And they don’t stay too long.

OMG

MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net went really well. We had 12 Check-Ins. If not a record then very close to being one. Several of the new Hams (KG’s) managed to join us. That was cool! Afterwards AC7VA (Gary) tried to explain 6-meters to me. It somewhat worked but I still haven’t heard anyone on 6-meters. Tried tuning into the 6-meter repeater in Shelton but didn’t hear anything there either.

Anywho, nice day. Only had to get dressed once (for SWMBO’s visitors). Nothing fell out of the sky and landed on the house, or us. Don’t really have to worry about Tornado’s here.

2015-07-06

Really A Nice Day Wx Wise.

I bought a 5 TB drive at COSTCO for $140 today. FIVE Terabytes! Let me explain why this is exciting. My first “hard drive” was actually a “Hard Card;” a hard drive mounted on an expansion card that fit into an 8-bit slot inside my XT computer. The drive was a whopping 40 MB (which had a Max 32 MB partition available with 8 MB in another. Or however you wanted it partitioned as long as you didn’t try to go over the 32 MB limit). It also cost a whopping $460.

vlcsnap-00171

My Mom got it for me, once she understood what it was I wanted, by playing the slot machines for about 8 minutes. Big jackpot out of which she gave me $500 to get that “thingie” I wanted. (She could do that. “We need a new boat? Hang on a minute.” and off she’d go and win enough to get whatever it was she wanted. She once paid cash for a brand new Z380 (380Z?) with a customized male voice that said “Clara, you’re running out of gas.” “Clara, you left your lights on.”) But she couldn’t win enough to be “Rich” and stay that way. But she was fairly comfortable.

So, yeah, getting a 5TB drive is sorta kinda a big deal for me. And, what am I going to DO with all this storage space? Why, store things, of course. Backup. And Organization. Finally, all the scans I’ve done that are spread all over creation and back I can move to one place. All the video we’ve taken over the years; in one place. All the documents I’ve converted to .pdf format that I need to keep but hardly look at over the course of a year (or two or three); in one place and off my working hard drives. (Working meaning drives I use every day.)

Coco-Ho-surf-naked

Of course, I’ll probably buy another one to backup the new drive “Just In Case!” I’m pretty anal about backing up all the scans I’ve done cause 1) some of those pictures are irreplaceable, and 2) that’s a LOT of damned work to duplicate for any reason. (Which reminds me; I need to buy some more 50 GB blu-ray discs.)

Made a trip to Fife to the Toll Court. Judge threw my case out because I had done all I could and it was the Toll folks that screwed up. Still have another hearing coming up for the other one though. Got there an hour early cause traffic was a lot lighter than I thought it’d be. Judge did my case early. Nice of him.

WHIMZY1243

Other than that I didn’t get a lot accomplished today. The usual chores. Did manage to vacuum half the big room. But other than that I really haven’t done squat. Nice day to be lazy; so I was. (Hey, I’m Retired!)

2015-07-05

I Will Not Say SSDD Sunday! I Won’t.

But, it was. Glad to say. Nice, Hot, Sunny Day. I spent a lot of time outside. SWMBO and I shared making dinner; I grilled Pork Ribs and she made everything else. (Cauliflower & some baked beans.) And she made me some cheesecake in ice cream cone thingies that were good too.

vlcsnap-00063

Just not a lot going on; which is how Sunday should be. Been flying around in MSFSX. Helo’s don’t do barrel rolls very well. Kinda Sorta listening to Neil DeGrasse Tyson lecturing on My Favorite Universe (a course I got from The Learning Company). Getting my regular Sunday chores done.

vlcsnap-00038

Friends came over and took the rhubarb plants (and that fake lettuce: kale). If the Dog hadn’t barked at them driving up they’d have found me naked. Call First if you’re coming over! Usually if you just show up you get what you get.

MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net went well. Even had a new check-in from Brown’s Point! Cool! Lot’s of complaints about the Heat lately.

vlcsnap-00074

And that really is about it. Pretty normal Sunday around here. Finally starting to cool off some. SWMBO is downstairs with the Sister Missionaries. I’m going to just chill and read a bit before bedtime. Gotta make a trip to Fife and Traffic Court tomorrow.

2015-07-04

My My My. What A Warm Day!

And I am just loving it! But, even I had to get in my wheelbarrow/pool for a few this afternoon. That felt great and the breeze was nice and cool when I got out of it. The Wheelbarrow/pool. Not the breeze. I enjoyed the breeze. Nevermind.

Wish I had this in my backyard!

SWMBO took me to the Church 4th of July breakfast. Had a short Flag ceremony and then eggs (scrambled), sausage (burnt), and one pancake. One pancake is about all I can stand. It was all pretty good though. Was already getting hot out by the time we left. (SWMBO had to leave for the Genealogy Library.)

Wish I had this in my backyard!

So, I’ve just been messing around the house. Watered some of the front lawn. Picked my first batch of peas for the year! That was cool. Took a walk around the back 40. (Dog said “Fook it. I ain’t going.”) Washed my truck inside and out. (Looks nice! That’ll end the first time we go anywhere. Sometimes living down a dirt road is kind of a pain in the ass.)

My Schweetie got home from the Library and dragged me to the church to help her clean. Her assignment: Blackboards and bathrooms. So I cleaned the bathrooms. Of course. Nice working with her though. Just spending time together. Neat-O.

Then she took me to the All-You-Can-Eat Chinese place in Port Orchard where I stuffed myself on one plate of mostly chicken & mushrooms of different types. Had a crawdad. Had my usual cup of chocolate ice cream. She damned near had to roll me to the truck.

Snow2

Stopped by Wal-Mart to see if they had one of those universal radio mounting brackets; they didn’t. Instead we got a small dish drainer for the Caravan and a couple of karabiners. Made our usual stop at Safeway (got out of there cheap this week!) and home.

It’s still rather hot out so she’s “taking a rest.” I took off all my clothes and went for a walk. I like the heat. Picked some more peas that I missed earlier and watered the garden. Yummy stuff: fresh peas!

image

Hope all y’all had a fun, safe, July 4th!

2015-07-03

What A Gloriously Hot Day!

I dragged that Tent Trailer over to the new owners house in Shelton, then SWMBO took me to MacDonald’s because I was getting “Hangry.” There was a little blond girl, probably 2 years old, playing in the play area that reminded me of my oldest daughter at that age. And then I remembered that that was 40 freakin’ years ago! Damn, I feel old sometimes.

But SWMBO cheered me up some. She reminded me that people that joined the Navy the day I retired have themselves been retired a couple of years now. Thanks, Woman. Why don’t you just twist that knife a little bit so it won’t hurt as much!

ICOMIC208H3

So I went and bought a new radio. Well, not new, but new to me. W7FBI had a IC-208H for sale so I went over to his place, made sure it worked, and bought it. I already have it hooked up in the truck but not permanently mounted yet. Still working the location for that out. The only place I found a mounting bracket for it wants $28 and shipping. Right now the only good mounting place would be in the little “change” drawer thingie next to my right knee. I could remote head it except I really don’t like a lot of wires running all over the place.

http%3A%2F%2F33.media.tumblr.com%2Fa3adc59914eb57c0fc2fa9871d9451dd%2Ftumblr_nc03j5KEdd1rd3yhfo1_1280

It “da-dinks” several repeaters in the area but haven’t heard anyone on-air yet. Think I’m going to re-do the antenna to how it was on my last truck. (In the middle of the toolbox top towards the front of the toolbox so it could still open without the antenna hitting the cab.)

I always wonder if I got my money’s worth, or just out right cheated, when I buy stuff. I paid $175 for this radio with the separation cable and extended mic cable. Looking around online, I’ve seen this same radio for $250-$850. So, since it seems to work just fine, I guess I should be happy.

general-lee

Not much else going on. Hot day, for WaRshington. Way too much traffic on the highways and byways. Was really nice to spend time with SWMBO. Even if part of that time was in the Allyn Yarn Shop. Where I also got some ideas for that rock wall we want to build from their guy building a rock wall. Supposed to be even hotter tomorrow.

So my wheelbarrow/pool is already filled.

2015-07-02

Really! I’m Not Kidding. I *NEED* To Be Rich!

Y’all think I’m kidding; but I’m not. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people that feels my financial worth is tied to the amount of money I have. (Whereas a Liberal figures their financial worth by how much money you have.) Being a Retired Navy Corpsman, and just plain retired, and getting only my Navy Retirement & Social Security (BOTH of which I worked for BTW. Benefit my ass!), I never seem to have enough. Money.

microaggression

Tried starting one of those “crowd sourcing” things, “Let’s Make OldDocKing Filthy Fookin’ Rich,” but it never really took off. Can’t understand why not. Could it have been the site motto “Give OldDocKing The Lifestyle You Always Wanted!”? Ah, well. Kickstarter is next I imagine.

Which in and of itself is kinda funny. When I was a kid, kickstarter was what Dad did to our asses if we didn’t move fast enough for him. I really think because of Dad, and his free use of making us stand in the corner, grounding us, and using his belt on our backsides when he saw the need, I now suffer from a crippling disease called “Respect For Other People & Property.”  And I still hold doors for those of the Female Gender. (And pretty much anyone coming up behind me really.) I’ve made several Psychiatrist’ careers.

femjoy_110405_020

But we won’t get into that. For now.

Not much going on around here. Supposed to be 90+ degrees today so people, for the most part, are hunkering down in their air conditioned hovels and not moving around much. Except me, of course. Holiday traffic is going to be a real BITCH around the area later; what with people sweating in their cars in the lousy traffic we usually have around here made worse by everyone trying to get out of town for the holiday weekend. Civilization will one day die in a traffic jam. His sister, Courtesy, has already fallen ill.

TV Land Can Kiss My Ass!

Found some frozen Shrimp (in the freezer of all places) slowly going bad and thought I’d better use it. Once I cleaned them up (de-shelled them), threw them in a skillet with some butter, garlic, chopped onions, and chopped celery until they were bright reddish. Poured in a jar of that alfredo stuff SWMBO likes, made angel hair spaghetti, and dinner was served. Oh, peas too. I’m not much into pasta but it wasn’t bad if I do say so myself.

Went and watered the garden. I got peas ready to pick! Mater plants are matering. Bell Pepper plants hardly change; but at least they’re still there. Yes, They’re in Their planter over There.

And that’s pretty much it. Picked SWMBO up and we’re home. I’m playing with some of the video files my new dashcam recorded and kinda, sorta, watching 2001: A Space Odyssey but am about to go lay down and read. A Book; not Tumblr.

2015-07-01

Sunny, Hot, Itchy, Itchy, Itchy Day!

Still cleaning up after Field Day. Finally got the BBQ cleaned. What a chore that was! After 3 days of use it really needed cleaning. Think I’ll line the inside with tin foil this time. May make it easier to clean. May not.

vlcsnap-00171

KE7NUQ and family came over to look at the Tent Trailer. Gave them the complete setting it up and let them sit around awhile in it. They liked it so much they want to buy it. Cool! I’m going to be taking it to their house Friday; they have to get their van set up to tow and they’re not sure when that’ll be. In the meantime it can sit in their driveway and they can practice setting it up and taking it down. (And I accidently put a hole in the screen door while showing it to them that I’ll have to fix before then. Klutzy me!)

Not much else going on. Planet Of The Apes (1968) marathon going on my monitor. Can of Dinty’s for dinner. Kind of lounging between outside and my desk.

vlcsnap-00320

SWMBO just called and I get to pick her up at the bus stop this evening after work. Cool!

Wednesday: And I forgot to post this last night. I blame it on SWMBO. She makes me forget things.

2015-06-26

Well. Off To Field Day

Damn! Tomorrow is also my 63rd Birthday! Yay! I Made It! (This Far.)

We Need This Guy In Ham Radio!

Report when I get back!

2015-06-24

Just Nothing. SSDD.

Oh, Joy! The (shitty) neighbor’s oldest kid got a new horn for his truck. It’s loud and sounds sorta like a train horn. He’s been “testing” it all damned day. Between that and them running up and over a small extension next to the road (which just happens to be on my property)(wrecking that small patch of bank, btw) I can’t contain my pleasure at having such, such, Dipsidiots, as neighbors. I’m still waiting for their youngest to kill the rest of them in their sleep some night. I’d stay alive long enough to watch him fry. Hell, I’d volunteer to flip the switch.

c4b

Not much else going on for a Tuesday. Took a short ride around earlier to test that new dashcam I got; it worked fine; for the second half of the trip. Have to figure that out. Takes nice video though.

Started getting the Caravan ready for this weekend. Wx report looks good; hot and sunny. Which will be a change as it’s managed to rain for most of my previous Field Day’s. We’ll see how that turns out.

c1b

I’m pretty disappointed in that new Vape thing I got. Battery doesn’t last very long and it gives me an “invalid mini” error (whatever that means!) when I start it up. It does use more e-juice, but I expected that.

And that has been my day. Kind of laid back really.

2015-06-15

Caught My Balls Up A Tree. Again.

Where to start? Damn Fine Day! About 90+ degrees. Sunny. A get naked and stay the Hell outside day. So I pretty much did. Except:

Had an appointment in Olympia with the CPAP folks at 0900. Wore clothes for that. They’re so picky! Was a pretty ride  and traffic wasn’t all that bad. Appointment went well. They gave me a new mask (which means they charged the Insurance Company $215 “for services rendered.”) I try not to abuse that whole insurance thing; I’ll use stuff until it just can’t be used anymore before getting a new one. Yes, I know, that’s what I pay Insurance for; but I just can’t take advantage of the Insurance folks by having them pay for something I don’t really need. I needed the Sleep Study. I need the CPAP machine. I’ll use the face mask and hose until they’re in taters then get new. (And I still don’t understand what makes those silicone, mass-produced, face masks cost $274. Just seems spendy to me.)

Ride home was pretty. Took the slower road along the sound and pretty much stuck to speed limit.

2120210210_1fd87750e9_o

Nice out so I got out the tennis ball launcher and tried to put my antenna wire where I want it. No joy. BOTH tennis balls got stuck up in the tree and the lines broke while trying to pull them down. Crap! Gotta go to ACE and get some more tennis balls, weights, and various other things to make a tennis ball launch able. Then try again. And I gotta have this thing ready to take to Field Day too.

But I did get the 6-160 meter antenna down and the balun attached so it is at least ready to hoist into position. It’ll be nice to be able to start using that antenna. Of course, there are wires all over the place and hanging over the top of the house until I get that done. That’s what you’d call – Incentive. Something us Old Fart Hams need daily; incentive.

Broken-error-windows-death-screen-glass-broken

I had the best time out with my Schweetie yesterday. Seeing new places with her is always a joy. We’ve lived up here since Jan 93 and that was the first time we’ve been to the Visitor’s Center on Mt. Rainier. Heck, that day trip a couple of weeks ago was the first time we drove up to the mountain in all the time we’ve been here. Just always seemed to be “busy.”

The fee at the gate to Mt. Rainier was $20 per car. I remembered (Yay!) to ask for the Old-Guy Forever Pass thingie; which I got and we got into the park for the $10 the card cost. COOL! And now we can get into all the National Parks just by showing the card. That is really cool! Turning 63 the end of the month still sucks; but there are some good things out there for us Old Guys.

2015-06-14

Mt. Rainier Day Trip. I’m Tired!

What a nice day! Oot & Aboot with my Schweetie. Finally got to the Visitor’s Center atop Mt. Rainier. Nice, warm, sunny, traveling day! We even had a small cook-out on the tailgate.

And we saw the “Hobo Inn” in Elbe, WA. where you can sleep in a Caboose if you want. Cool!

IMG_1805

But I’m really beat right now. I drove only 210 miles (less than a half tank of gas!) but most of it was mountain road. On the way back got stuck behind a guy that was playing “The Game” until I managed to get around him. Then it was smooth sailing.

Got home just in time to check in to the MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net. KE7NUQ ran it for me tonight. Nice of him.

Lazy Old Fart Forgets Blog. World Cheers.

Where have I been? What the Hell have I been doing? I don’t know. Seems I’ve been busy though. Too busy to post apparently. Only two days, but, still!

avanti_1

Yesterday? Seems yesterday was a butt-ton cooler than it has been. Spent most of the day inside working on “stuff.” Still straightening up .epub files. Still working on my scans. That kind of stuff. I just know the cooler weather came on because I hung my coat up in the closet for the summer. Which means it had to get cold again.

Had the MCARC monthly meeting this morning in Shelton; where the meeting usually is. Was cold this morning too. Meeting went well though. They’re still getting used to me keeping them on track until a decision is made. Even if that decision is to make the decision later. Which I try to not let them get away with. Got a compliment from a “New” Old Guy for the way I conduct the meeting. Cool!

Warmed up today so I laid out waiting for SWMBO to get home from the Genealogy Library. Today she took me to Home Depot to look at pipe (and anything else we felt like looking at. We could (and have) spent a lot of money at Home Depot!). To eat at Qdoba’s (which was okay, I guess). To COSTCO where we got bulk things we “need.” (You know how that one goes.) And our usual stop at Safeway.

Bought X-Plane 10 through Steam last night for half what it would cost to just buy through x-plane.com. Totaled out at 16 Gig to download; which took almost 24 hours. Wow! Played it for the last hour or so. I like it. I can’t really see any difference between X-Plan 9 and 10, but I’m sure something is there that makes it “better.” I crashed while landing every time! Going too slow and losing control.

Anywho, that’s about it from around here. SWMBO surprised me by suggesting a picnic on Mt. Rainier tomorrow so we’re going to do that. Any time I get to spend with her is great time; but to get to spend time with her in the outdoors is doubly so!

If I Were A Rich Man. Yada Yada Yada Yada Yaaaaaaaaa.

Try getting that out of your head over the next several hours! Not much going on around here. Pretty SSDD day. Mostly sunny starting around noon. Warm. Nice. But I haven’t left myself a whole lot to do outside. Didn’t stop me from hanging outside as much as possible; but I was pretty lazy doing it. Hey, I’m retired.

I Used To Be Skinny, In Shape, And Young!

Did go through the freezer in the pantry to find something for dinner. Trying to eat out of the freezer a bit more cause things still do go bad in them; just at a much slower pace. Anywho, found a crab a friend gave me a few months ago, and, walla, dinner. That and a couple of ears of corn I got last Saturday went down just fine. Messily, but fine. (Need to take a shower after that dinner. Crab everywhere!)

And, yes, I know it should be “voilà.” (With the little accent thingie over the a.)

And that was pretty much my day. Kinda slow. Kinda boring. Once I cut a hole in the cabinet in the Caravan and installed the new plug & faceplate, my day was pretty much done. Aside from all my “usual” chores, that is. Even watered the garden.

Working on my “electronic” library. All the .epub files I have. Trying to straighten them up (internally) and import them into Calibre. Only several thousand to go! So I’m starting with my favorite Authors and working through their books I have.

And it turns out I’m missing four “Odd Thomas” books that I didn’t even know had been written!
