Woke To Rain And Stuffy Nose

Herc11While we needed the rain, I could do without the snuffy nose. Rain stopped after a few (less than an hour really) but the nose is still stuck the front of my face.

Not a whole lot going on. Cloudy and at just the right temperature that the mosquito’s go after every inch of bare skin they can if one was to step outside. Which the Dog and I have done many times today. Couple of walks along the roads. Couple of walks around the back 40. Gardening. You’d think I’d get immune to bug bites; but I ain’t.

Been watching the hurricane Irma coverage off and on on YouTube. Lots of talking for not a lot happening right now. Lot’s of Coulds. Could do this. Could do that. Could be MUCH Worse! Think I’ll just turn it off until Saturday night.

Caroline Munroe At The Earth's Core

Watched “Sleepy Hollow.” Don’t know what all the hubub was about. Was decent. Entertaining. Christina Ricci was still beautiful and kept her clothes on. (Mixed feelings about that.) Effects were good.

I Joined The Navy In That Building in 1970

Picked a bunch of my green onions to take to the MCARC meeting tomorrow. Well see how that turns out.

Got to pick SWMBO up tonight. It must be Friday!

Wow. Almost Got Warm Outside Today.

Taste1Again. SSDD. Except the sun was out and it got kind of nice out there. So me and the Dog got out and tried a couple of things to get my long-wire antenna up again. None of which worked, of course.

First I hooked fishing line to the drone and made a couple of attempts to get over the tree. Almost worked the first time! Wasn't quite as far around the tree as I thought. My other attempts were dismal failures in that it was just too breezy to have good control over the drove. And I almost got it hung up in the tree.

So, tennis ball gun. Ball went right where I wanted it first shot. Fishing line went right where I wanted it to. Fishing line got caught up and the ball is now hanging about 30 feet up. Kind of inaccessable to an fat, old, guy like me. So I'm leaving it in place, with plenty of extra string, to see if the wind will work it down to where I'll be able to grab it. We'll see.

NC349-05Was really nicer outside. Took the Dog for a couple of walks. He’s a warm Wx Dog for sure. Been antsy all day. I’ve been busy doing Club finances and putting together those cansolidator thingies SWMBO bought and haven’t been able to pay that much attention to him. So I chased him around the big room for awhile. He’s getting to where he’ll “fight” with me. Cool!

The Monday evening NMARES 2-meter Net went well. Everyone was scratchy;  but everyone is always scratchy on this repeater.

SWMBO is home and in doing her homework. Dog is finally getting calmed down. Think I’ll go read a bit.

Another Wet And Windy Day

Monique1cccStopped raining long enough to take the Dog for a couple of walks today. Still really windy though. Cold Wind! We weren’t out long as I figure when my ears get cold, the Dog’s ears are cold; so we come inside.

And this has been my life the past couple of days. It’s either pouring rain or really windy or both. Day before yesterday, it started and all that snow we had melted in about an hour. Made the backyard river in record time this year. All that uphill snow melted, then the added rain, it didn’t take long. So we have 2 inches of water running across the back yard. I check it every so often to be sure it isn’t getting too close to the basement.

Monique3aAlso, I’ve received 8 or so e-mails today about tree’s down, and taking wires with them, all around the Sound. With gusts up to 50 mph I can see it happening. Ain’t much fun to lose power, but it’s gonna happen around here.

Sorry, just not a whole hell of a lot going on what with being stuck inside and all. Once the usual chores are done there’s not much to do except “computer” stuff and picking on the Dog. Walked a mile on the treadmill. (Finally!)

MCARC meeting tomorrow. Got the coffee pot all set to be turned on (like usual).

OMG, I miss summer!

Got Tired Of Working On My Computer

btkw07aSo, after my appointment at Haselwood Cheverolet in Bremerton today (to fix a recalled driver’s-side seat belt retention thingamagiggy and it took only 1.5 hours instead of 3 like they were figureing) I made Blackberry Jam/Jelly.

And that was pretty much my day.

Oh, it got really cloudy and rained a bit, but we never did get any thunder. Dog and I took a walk between the bouts of rain. I got my feet a bit wet. He got soaked. (He’s a little Dog. Short legged freak!)

Really. Nothing else going on today.

2016-07-22

Lightning And Thunder And Hard Rain. Oh, My!

And, no, it doesn’t happen very often around here. But, at 0400 this morning I was woken up by heavy thunder. I tend to wake easily with the slightest strange noise in the house, but this was pretty loud. Of course, lightning was occasionally going on; which led to more thunder (of course). Had a period of pretty hard rain too. All in all, the “storm” lasted almost an hour. Was cool!!! Figured I was already up, and the alarm was going to go off at 0515, that I might as well stay up. Woke up again @ 0700. Lazy Turd.
Not a whole lot happened around here yesterday. Nice, Hot, day out until late afternoon. In the space of about 5 minutes it went to cloudy and 10-15 degrees cooler. Made a run to ACE, the bank, Post Office, and the dirt farm (Peninsula Topsoil) up the road. I can have a ton of compost/dirt mix delivered for around $90, OR, I can pick it up myself (using my truck) for $27.50. Guess which I’m gonna go with. Go ahead. Guess. (I’ll wait.)
cise02bToday has been overcast but semi-warm. Just warm enough for the mosquito’s to swarm while I was out mowing the back yard. Got several bites.
And, other than that it’s just been my normal chores around here. Did finally try on all my pants and put those that no longer fit into a pile for the Goodwill (or whoever). I think I’m picking SWMBO up at the QFC tonight; but will have to check to be sure.
Crap! It’s already 1600! Where did the day go?

Made Peanut Butter Cookies. Maybe I’ll let SWMBO have a couple. Maybe.
I did get to go pick her up at the QFC. We’re home and just relaxing. About time to go lay down and read a bit. Guess it’d be too much to hope for another lightning storm tonight!

2016-06-08

Cloudy And Way Cooler Today. Suxs!

Bolero02aBolero02vBut y’all know that I like the hotter weather. I really should live in Yuma or Gila Bend. Or even the Mojavie Desert. (Except that is a bit too hot even for me.) Still, I do like the green around here; except when it gets so dry a fire could spread like, well, wild fire. And the trees are too damned tall! I like open sky.

Got out and made another raised bed. Since that bag of cement mix broke yesterday, I just moved it all into the hole I created in the middle of the raised bed, added another bag, and wet it down pretty good. It’ll harden and may work to keep the moles out. It may not. Don’t really care. I’m tired of building the things. (Only 2 more to go!)

I saw this headline: “Study: Larger Wine Glasses Leads To More Drinking” and two thoughts came to mind: 1) Duh! 2) How much did we pay so someone could “study” the obvious? (And a companion piece was “Larger Baby Bottles Making Fat Babies.”) I’m getting to where I can’t watch or read the “News” anymore.

T28c-2a

Wow. Power flickered and my computer(s) shut down. Shit. It had been sprinkling a bit earlier but didn’t seem to be bad enough to flicker the power. Even looking at the real-time lightning map doesn’t show anything nearby. Hmmm … Wind does kind of kick up some. (Heard some distant booms too; kind of like artillery used to sound at Camp Pendleton.)

MCARC Wednesday Evening 2-meter Chat Net tonight. Went well except reception was in and out with the wind. After, a couple of the guys helped me test the new antenna placement. Got pretty good signal reports on 28.450 USB from some; couldn’t hear others. Still.

And that’s about it. A friend is coming over to visit for a few and by the time he leaves it’ll be past bedtime. I’m already tired from building raised-beds today. SWMBO should be home shortly too. Yay!

Hell Of A Wind Yesterday!

Trees down all over the place. Lot’s of damages to homes from falling trees. Power outages. Wires burning. Houses burning. Even a couple of deaths from trees falling on cars. Man, it was crazy here. Wind really howled around the house a few times. Don’t really like craking noises coming from the ceiling.

2016-03-14 Wind Damage

We “weathered” the storm fairly well here. Lots of stuff we have outside got blown around; but we didn’t get any real damage nor lose power. Lights flickered enough for me to turn my computers and the NAS off (which is why I didn’t post last night), but they didn’t go completely out. Nor did it even reset any of our clocks. Cool!

Today has been mostly wet and only partially windy. Saw a blub where the Weather folks exclaimed “The Storm Is Over!” just as it started to hail rather aggressivly. Yeah. Sure. Tell me another. I still fully expect it to give us one more good snow before the end of April.

023

Not a whole hell of a lot going on around here. I’ve been kind of lazy today; just the usual chores and took the Dog for a walk between the periods of rain. Finished off the laundry. Made some more jigglers. Talked on the radio some.

Still playing on getting the Linksis Routers to be Meshed. Tried a hard reset on one and now it comes up “NOCLL-xxxxxxxx” and won’t let me log in. Which is worse than before I tried the hard reset and just couldn’t log in. Figures. Now I gotta remember the log-in for the one I “flashed.”

FB_IMG_1448349557900

Anywho, that Sweet Young Thing I married almsot 30 years ago is home (safe) so I think I’ll go spend some time with her.

2016-01-04

Oh, Look! Another Dreary Monday!

The DIRT road to/from our house was icey when I went to the Post Office earlier. The DIRT road. Almost as slick as snot. Was fun driving on, but I wouldn’t want to make a habit of it. Parking lots at the Bank and the Post Office were slushy.

IMAG2018_stitch

Really not a whole lot going on around here. Had a small bit of snow yesterday afternoon into early evening; but nothing stuck and it eventually just sprinkled. But, SWMBO made fried shrimp for dinner so I realy didn’t care what it was doing outside.

Got in a “reading” mood this past week so I re-read all three “Crystal Singer” books by McCaffrey. Enjoyed them all over again. Wondering what to delve into next. Re-read the complete Dragonrider series? Start back in with my favorite Clancey? Let Stephen King or Dean Koontz fill my evenings with weirdness? Back to the classic sci-fi authors: Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein, et al?

femjoy_110685_051

I get a daily e-mail from BookBub with their recommendations for books I might want to buy. All the blurbs read like something I’ve read and all the new “hero’s” are female. (Not that I find anything wrong with a good female hero; but all of them? Did the guys quit going into Space looking for trouble?) Ah well.

So, I need to get off my fat ass. Been sitting around too damned much even if I am retired. Four hours of X-Plane does not an active Old Guy make. Can’t force myself to walk on the treadmill; too damned boring. So I got down in the basement to straighten up for awhile and try to make plans for what I want to do down there. Wow, only took 30+ years but I finally got all my drill bits in one place! Dayam!

image

Problem is being stuck inside. I hate Winter. Purely hate it. If I was to win that $400 million Powerball I’m afraid I’d just follow summer around the world. Have much nicer weather to not get anything accomplished.

Anywho, it’s several (non-productive) hours later and I’m back from picking SWMBO up at the Ferry Landing. Managed to check in to a couple of new 2-meter Nets while out. Stopped at Micky D’s cause she was hungry. Just hunkering down for the night.

2015-12-04

There Is Just No Way To Catch Up!

Been busy or had a headache these past few days. Couple of days ago the headache was a real pounder and I didn’t get anything done. Damned if it didn’t wake me a couple of times during the night. Missed the Extra Class class again too.

C-130_5

Working on the new NAS. Got all our movies, music, pictures, and most of the TV Shows copied to it. Even copied our electronic “library” (epub files) so those are centrally located now. Printer plugged in and works just fine. (For those times we actually print something. Not often but we occasionally do.) Got SWMBO all set up with a mapped drive to each of the main directories so all she has to do is click and watch. Once she figures out what she wants to watch, that is.

femjoy_111294_068

Been raining a lot the past few days also. I’ve been picking SWMBO up at the ferry landing around 1950 (she’s managed some overtime) and driving there and back has been “fun.” Way wet. Foggy a lot of time. But at least it isn’t as cold as it has been. Pretty much stuck inside though. Which sucks.

Been spending way too much time on Tumblr, G+, and Facebook and not getting the reading done that I want to do. I love reading. Miss it. There’s nothing like taking up a book and getting lost somewhere for a few hours. So I’ve started reading (for pleasure) again. It’s nice.

vlcsnap-00113

That being said; I think it’s time for a “Red Dwarf” marathon.

So the Dog and I took a tour of the back 40. Still wet. Couple of broken off tree branches that I need to pull down before they fall on somebody’s head in the next breeze. Otherwise not a lot of damage so far this winter. Except for that one tree (well, half tree) down. Cool!

Well, picked SWMBO up and we be home. Think I’ll pay some attention to her for awhile.

2015-11-23

It Just Looks Cold Out There!

Clouded over and supposed to start sprinkling this afternoon. Maybe light snow flurries tonight. Maybe. It’s a balmy 43 degrees out there but feels cold enough. With how into feelings we all are these days maybe I ought to demand that cold weather be banned for not living up to my feelings. Screw Facts. It ought to be different because I feel it should be different.

cowboy01bcowboy04

Maybe I need a “safe weather space.” Like Bermuda. Sidney would work too. (Anywhere but western Washington really. I hate this State!)

Took the Dog to the foo-foo place in town for a flea bath, haircut, and nail trim. That’ll cost $50 (well spent!) and be good for a month or so. Unless he gets out in the mud or something. Now I need to stop by the bank for some bucks to get him back.

femjoy_111256_022

Went out and moved about half the cement blocks that I stacked too close to the “driveway” to a little further away from the “driveway.” Was making it “iffy” to pull into the garage. I can’t see as close as I’d like to the front of that bigger truck I’m driving now. It has a rear-view camera (for when you’re backing) but really needs a front-bumper-view camera so you can tell when you’re getting close to things.

Decided to go the easy route for dinner tonight. TV Dinner. Yep, Old Guy Lazy.

It’s 1820 and, so far, no snow. Sprinkling. Dark as hell. No snow. We had about 8 inches of snow here about 6 or 7 years ago; but only “light” snows since. I think about 2 inches max. Plenty of rain though!

cowboy03cowboy02

Trying to see what Windows programs I can run under Wine, and, so far, several things have worked. PIM, Picasa 3, a DVD ripper that works on some of the discs I have, and other things. Cool! Can’t get Windows Live Writer to work though. Which is a bummer. That’s almost the only program I keep Windows around for anymore.

Ah well, it’s getting late. SWMBO is home and fed and cursing her laptop so I ought to check that out. She’s having problems keeping her $100 Bluetooth keyboard & mouse working. (Which really does suck.)

2015-11-18

What A Wind Storm Yesterday!

mclintock1aIt was really gusting! My antenna’s were really bouncing around. Power flickered enough (here) to reboot my computer. (Then I’d leave it off for an hour, no flicker, restart, flicker, reboot. Times 3 or so. Frustrating.) Lots of reports of trees down, trees down on power lines and burning, couple of reports of trees down in power lines on houses burning. Butt-ton of road closures (still closed this morning).

On the drive to the Extra Class class last night the power was out from Belfair through Gorst on out to the edge of Gig Harbor. (This is the point where regular people would  say: The Airport was dark. All the houses were dark. The businesses were dark. There were no lights out there at all! because “the power was out from Belfair through Gorst out to the edge of Gig Harbor” wouldn’t include any of that.)

femjoy_110834_055

And, of course, I’m siting in the drive-through line at MacDonald’s in Gig Harbor and I get a text from SWMBO asking if I can pick her up as her son was stuck under a house in Olympia. Nope. Sorry. Tuesday is class night. Luckily she got a ride from one of her friends and he stopped by on the way back to his workplace and let her in the house. It worked out.

Our drainage pipes in the back yard finally overflowed yesterday afternoon so I have a 2” deep “river” running across the yard. That’ll last a couple of days since all the water from uphill of us still has to find it’s way down here.

But, it seems we weathered another storm without any great problems here; and that’s good. Antenna’s appear to have survived intact. All the computer’s seem to work. Freezer continues to freeze. Caravan is still intact. House is still intact. SWMBO is safe.

mclintock2aGot an e-mail from Amazon.com that my new NAS is supposed to be delivered today. Which I’ll believe when I see it. If it is delivered, that’ll be a month earlier than they last said it would be delivered. Which would be cool. Still later than I was originally told it would be, but, lot’s better than waiting until mid-December. I’d give them better marks for effort if it actually gets here today.

Well, got an e-mail from Amazon saying they tried delivery. I don’t know why they didn’t actually deliver it cause I was here all morning except for going to check mail; and I didn’t see any UPS trucks on the road to the mailbox and back. Ah well. Got to pick it up at the Post Office in town at noon so whatever. It’s been opened and inspected and everything seems to be there. Now to buy the drives for it!

And that was pretty much my day. Not really exciting, huh? Just an Old Guy hanging around the house after getting his usual chores done.

2015-11-12

Big Storm Moving In Tonight

Or, today, actually. Supposed to be a big one lasting for a couple of days. It’s not quite Noon and it’s already raining pretty good and the wind is starting to kick up a bit. Oh, Joy! Re-loosened the long wire dipole and my 144/70cm antenna is still guyed from the last wind we had, so I think I’m ready. Everything that can charge is charging just in case the power goes out. Generators are up and able to run.

C-130_5

Now to hunker down. I don’t know if it’ll be that bad. But it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. Copied a bunch of our movies to a thumb drive and can use the laptop to watch a movie if the power goes out and I get bored reading. Always have the Dog to kick around too. He don’t care if the power is out.

Not much has been going on around here these past couple of days. Veteran’s Day was like any other but without mail. MCARC 2-meter Wednesday Evening Chat Net went well; lot’s of Veteran’s in the club.

femjoy_110618_056

Tuesday night at the Extra Class class we finally moved into an area that I could (correctly!) answer some of the questions from a chapter we’re supposed to read this week. Cool!

Also put a small space heater out in the Caravan turned up just enough to keep the interior from freezing; if it comes to that. May cost us a couple of bucks a month to run but that’s better than having to repair/replace frozen water pipes. (Which were drained but I ain’t taking any chances. This is my first time winterizing a Caravan.)

1010151339c_HDR

Anyway, gonna post this early “just in case” the power does go out. It’s only gone out a couple of times these past 6-7 years; but it has during storms like we’re supposed to be getting tonight. During the big ice storm of 96 we went without power for 6 days (luckily we had a wood burner. Which we don’t have here.) Hopefully it won’t be that bad but the generators could help if it does.

2015-11-09

Crap! WHERE Did The Weekend Go?

Was I that busy? Did I go to sleep last Friday and not wake up until this morning? Lazy?  (I’d vote for that last. Personally.)

059

Saturday last was a completely normal Saturday. As far as normal works around here. SWMBO did take me to our usual all-you-can-eat Chinese place in Port Orchard for our dinner. I think it was to try and get the taste of the other place out of our mouths. Whatever, it’s always nice being out with her. Made a stop by Wal-Mart for some things (almost bought a 55” TV) and our usual Safeway stop on the way home.

Sunday was another completely normal Sunday. MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net went well but my reception was crappy. They didn’t have any problems hearing me though.

femjoy_110605_009

Today? Today has been the usual. Did get off my fat, old, ass and sweep and swab the kitchen & dining room. Put some new light bulbs in the laundry room. (It’s Really Bright In There Now!) Kicked the Dog around some since I haven’t been able to take him out for a walk cause of the rain. I know he’s bored. (As am I.)

It’s been raining off and on all weekend. I got out and did some of the burning yesterday but had to quit because of the rain. I was getting too wet. But I did get about half of it done. Cool!

And that’s pretty much it. “Amazing Spaces” Marathon. (Addictive!)

2015-11-02

What A Lovely, Rainy, Day.

Which started out even earlier for me since I had to be at the Doctor’s @ 0800. In Bremerton. So I left the house at around 0615 and went the back way (yes, took the back roads through the middle of the peninsula) and got to Bremerton in enough time to stop and grab some breakfast.

IMG_3406

Doctor’s appointment went well. Always nice to see him. Everything’s in fairly decent working order. All my Labs are “normal” for a guy my age. Blood pressure is still a bit high; but we’re working on it. I let him put some drops of liquid nitrogen on a couple of things hanging off me I’ve been meaning to get removed. Also got flu and Pneumovax shots (again, cause I’m old). He didn’t do the ol’ “fingerwave” but did start the process for me to get the full colonoscopy. So I had to wait at the Pharmacy (again) while they filled that Rx. Joy!

femjoy_110591_016

Not much else going on today. Regular chores are done. Kicked the Dog around for awhile (which he loves). Watching it rain outside so I think I’ll work on straightening up the basement some more.

IMG_3517

So I took the Dog for a tour of the back 40 between the raindrops. It’s Wet Back There! Limbs down all over the place. I need to take that walk again with a pair of snips to cut back some of the brush and brambles trying to take over the path. And those damned blackberry bushes! Picked what will probably be the last of the cherry tomato’s on the way back in. Surprised they produced this long.

Talked with NC7V down Vista, CA way on 14.342 for awhile this afternoon. Other than that really just been monitoring the frequencies. The 2-meter repeaters haven’t been as busy today as they’ve been the past few; what with the “storms” and wind we had around here.

femjoy_111294_072

That’s it. The Pandorica has opened and the Big Bang II is about to commence.

2015-10-30

Been Wet All Day. Mostly.

Windy too. Had to get out and “guy” my 2-meter antenna (which I should have done long before) and free one of the ends of my 6-160 dipole. I’m pretty sure the steel wire holding it up between the trees will hold through pretty much anything, but, wasn’t sure that the antenna wire itself would stand the strain. That steel wire is raising the cinder block that’s one one end about 8 inches when the wind really kicks up!

008

Not a whole lot going on. Straightened up in the basement some. Got my usual chores done. Cleared out the dishwasher. Continued to move things around on my hard drives to organize things.

femjoy_110685_032

Made a trip to the Vape Shop in Allyn and bought a new Mod. $65 and it’s a whole lot lighter than the Invader Mini. Which finally failed so bad that I cut into the button area to see if I could fix it. Nope. It was a shamble in there. I will probably never buy anything else from that company. Nor that Vape Shop in Bremerton.

393170-1680x1050

Anywho, I get to pick SWMBO up at the bus stop in town tonight. That’s always nice.

2015-10-29

Gonna Get Wet Around Here!

Screenshot_2015-10-29_18-52-05

Was going to do my usual short and to the point post, but, the weather is changing rather quickly tonight and it’s got the right side of my head pounding. Good thing it’s about bedtime!

And, of course, the left side of my head will feel left out and it’ll start pounding sometime tomorrow. I’m NOT looking forward to it.

allison05At least I got out of the house for a couple of hours today while it wasn’t raining and my head didn’t hurt. Made a run to Walmart to get some new forks to replace those SWMBO & Son have lost/misplaced. We were down to two forks in the house. That could be found.

Splurged and got NCIS Season 2&3 since they were on sale for less than $10 each. Yeah, I can be a wild and crazy guy sometimes.

Oh, made my first contacts on 900 MHz last night before hitting the rack. Nice. Think I’ll be joining that group for their Wednesday night Net. Unfortunately it starts a mere 15 minutes before the MCARC Wednesday night 2-meter Net.

2015-10-25

Sometimes It’s Not Worth …

Keeping a local database of things. Take keeping track of the TV episodes of a show you have. I’ve been playing with GCstar and I like how you can enter a TV show name, and it will go out and bring back in all the seasons and episodes. Nice. (Unfortunately, it doesn’t also bring in a synopsis of each episode. Nor is there any place to put one. That needs to be fixed. ASAP!)

damnation-alley-lobby-card-1

But, why? I can find all that information on Wikipedia, Imdb, TV.com and a dozen other places. The only thing they don’t have listed are the actual episodes I have on our TV drive. (Which is usually ALL of any particular program cause I’m OCD that way.) So why keep any of that information locally?

Not much going on around here these past couple of days. SWMBO took me to Red Lobster yesterday for dinner. We walked the Mall and I splurged on Seasons 2 & 3 of JAG at B&N. (Walmart would have been cheaper but I was there and SWMBO wanted them. For some reason, what she wants is important to me.)

femjoy_110553_065

Rained like crazy for awhile this morning. Really coming down! Woke her up noisy. I need to check to see if the burn ban is off yet … No. I’m not complaining about the rain nor am I comparing it to what they’re getting in Texas. It was just a downpour for a few minutes that we really need. I’m still worried about fires locally.

Normal Sunday routine now. Laundry. Ripping those programs. Downloading the latest Doctor Who. Answering e-mails about the new repeater the Club wants to get. (There is a real Repeater War coming up this next meeting! It’s gonna be nasty!)

Gas Station June 15 1932 A St and Water_2

SWMBO is making some kind of broiled steak for dinner. Yummy!

Kind of listening in on PSK31 on 20-meters. Kinda Sorta busy. Didn’t see any signals at all on the other frequencies (6-160) though. I should start making contacts again.

Just ordered the Raspberry Pi B starter kit online and it should be here sometime around 5-8 days. Still have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do with it; but thought I’d get it and play with it anyway. It’ll probably wind up as a media/print server. We’ll see.

That’s really it. MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net went well. Only had 6 check-ins tonight. Everyone else must be out enjoying the rain!

2015-10-10

It Be Raining Like Crazy Out There!

megan2Which has it’s good, and bad, points. We really need the rain right now. But, it’s raining. Dark enough (at Noon) for me to turn on my main light in my room. Finally got cool enough to turn the heat on. Seems that maybe Winter has finally started to arrive here for the year. Suxs!

Really hasn’t been much going on here. Been down in the basement the past couple of days putting the old cabinets up and getting the doors on them. Kind of straightening up. Trying to get all the things off the floors so I can work on them.

Have a butt-ton of old electronic/computer stuff that I need to get rid of. Might just throw everything in a big box and take it to the next Club meeting and let the guys shift through for anything they might be able to use. I’ll probably never use some of that stuff again. Only other thing is to find a recycle place that’ll take it.

Speaking of the Club: MCARC meeting went well this morning. The members present all voted to get a new Repeater! Damn Cool! Ours is so fooked up right now. It went into a transmit loop today. Some of the parts get so overheated that the techs turned the output power down. Which means our signal isn’t getting out as far. (I can barely hold contact from my house now.) All in all it should have been replaced years ago. (Now I get to inform the two guys that like working on the damned thing that it’s going to be replaced and ask them for help with the new one. Oh, Joy.)

And the research of which new Repeater to get will go on for a couple of months now. Then the decision on which to get. Then actually getting it delivered, installed, and set up. Probably sometime late next summer it’ll be up and running. And, even voting to get a new one will piss our Tech Guys off so who knows where that’ll lead.

Pretty “normal” Saturday around here now. Waiting on SWMBO to get home to take us out to dinner someplace. Kind of feel like walking the Mall so we’ll probably eat at Arby’s since she likes them and we’ll be in that neighborhood.

Heard several reports of downed trees and power lines around the area so far. Periods of heavy rain with gusts of wind. Damn, we could be having our first storm of the Winter.

So we went to Silverdale and checked out a new restaurant. Way too loud for the Old in us! Walked half the Mall and went to Red Robin for a burger. They have good burgers.

Walked the other half of the Mall after dinner (where I bought myself a small TARDIS for my window sill), made our usual stop at Safeway (where I found (and rented) TREMORS 5!!!), and now we be home.
